Sanghar : On the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Sindh Community Foundation organized a one-day seminar at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Sanghar. The event was attended by district administration officials, representatives from various departments, social activists, and local organizations, who discussed ways to strengthen and enhance the early warning system.
During the seminar, Assistant Commissioner Shafiq Ahmad Arisar emphasized the need for better planning and preparedness to mitigate the risks posed by natural disasters. He noted that climate change and other factors are increasing the intensity of such disasters, highlighting the need for measures to protect human lives and property.
Experts at the seminar shared practical strategies for disaster risk management. Divisional Forest Officer Mumtaz Majidano spoke about the significance of forests in Sanghar district and the need to address air pollution. Sikandar Babar, District Manager of Path Foundation, also addressed the attendees, sharing insights about their initiatives.Participants praised the efforts being made in Sanghar to tackle disaster risks and reaffirmed their commitment to contribute to awareness and preparedness initiatives. The seminar also featured remarks from Project Manager Jameela Nawaz, Program Coordinator Latif Somro and Early Warning System Incharge Sabir Hussain Mahar, who discussed disaster response and early notification strategies. Additional Director of Local Government Jamshed Qaimkhani, along with other officials, was also present at the event.
