The President of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore, Professor Shahid Malik, has demanded the immediate construction of an overhead bridge or an underpass between Lady Aitchison Hospital and Mayo Hospital to ensure safe and easy movement between the two hospitals.
He said that at present there is no direct connection between the two hospitals. During night hours, the main gates are often closed, due to which doctors, nurses, staff, and attendants of patients have to take a very long route. In this situation, on-call doctors face serious difficulties in moving between Lady Aitchison Hospital and Mayo Hospital.
Professor Shahid Malik further said that in emergency situations, ambulances also have to travel via distant routes such as Shah alami Chowk to reach Mayo Hospital, which wastes precious time and puts patients’ lives at serious risk. If both hospitals are connected through an overhead bridge or underpass, patients will be able to receive timely medical care and emergency services will become more effective.
He urged the Government of Punjab, district administration, and concerned departments to take immediate notice of this important public and medical need, approve the project without delay, and start practical work so that patients, doctors, and the general public can be relieved from daily hardships.
