Faisalabad: In line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a first-of-its-kind project to map manholes is being launched across Faisalabad and the entire province. Under this initiative, every sewage and stormwater manhole will be geo-tagged, assigning a unique identification number, recording its current condition, type of cover, and capturing digital images. This data will then be linked to a central digital dashboard, enabling real-time monitoring, timely action, prevention of cover theft, and improved sewage management.
Managing Director WASA, Saqib Raza, stated that under the guidance of DG WASA Punjab Tayyab Fareed and following the Chief Minister’s vision, work on this historic project will commence soon. He added that the initiative will enhance public safety, promote evidence-based planning, and contribute to modernizing urban infrastructure.
He emphasized that the project will be implemented using GIS tools without any additional financial burden, and field teams of WASA have already been instructed accordingly. The MD further noted that the project represents a significant step toward safer cities, smart infrastructure, and a fully digital water and sanitation system.
