One month meal programme launched at UAF’s laboratory school

FAISALABAD: The Chair of Nutrition and Public Health, Pak-Korea Nutrition Center (PKNC), University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has launched one-month School Meal Programme at Junior Laboratory School, aimed at improving the nutritional status.
The one-month Programme serves five different nutritious meals to the students, with one meal provided each day. The meals are planned to ensure a balanced supply of energy, protein, vitamins, and minerals, while also taking students’ taste preferences into account.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the School, in which PKNC Central Project Director Dr. Muhammad Atif Randhawa was chief guest. Chair Nutrition and Public Health Dr. Beenish Israr, Principal Officer (PO) Laboratory Schools Dr. Syeda Samina Tahira, Sana Arif, Dr. Hina Hafeez, Principal Junior Laboratory School, UAF Ms. Sahar, faculty members, teachers, and student attended.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Atif Randhawa said that school-based nutrition interventions are vital for building a healthy and productive generation. He emphasized that balanced meals at school not only improve physical growth but also enhance concentration, attendance, and academic performance. He appreciated the efforts of the Chair Nutrition and Public Health, PKNC for translating research and knowledge into practical community service.
Prof. Dr. Beenish Israr, stated that the School Meal Programme is designed according to the nutritional needs of school-going children. She added, the initiative reflects PKNC’s commitment to promoting child and community nutrition through practical, evidence-based approaches.
Dr. Samina Tahira said that such programmes not only improve children’s health but also create awareness among parents and teachers about the importance of nutritious food in daily life. She said that the programme can become a model for future school-based nutrition interventions across the region.
