US President Donald Trump Pauses Reciprocal Tariffs for 90 Days, Increases Tariffs on China

US President Donald Trump has announced a temporary pause on reciprocal tariffs against all countries, effective for the next 90 days, with the exception of China. In a significant move, the United States has raised tariffs on Chinese goods from 104 percent to a staggering 125 percent. Baseline tariffs of 10 percent remain intact for other nations.

The decision to escalate tariffs on China comes after Beijing imposed a hefty 84 percent tariff on US goods, which Trump cited as a demonstration of a lack of respect. US Commerce Secretary has indicated that President Trump is expected to engage in discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the coming days.

Despite the tariff hikes, markets experienced a lift following the announcement of the 90-day pause on higher tariffs.
