Pakistan Responds to US Tariffs, Urges Dialogue

Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch responded to US tariff measures, warning of negative impacts on developing countries and urging resolution through dialogue. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a steering committee to engage with US officials on the matter.

During a weekly briefing in Islamabad, the spokesperson noted concern over the tariffs and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to diplomatic solutions. She also criticized changes in India’s Waqf property laws, calling them discriminatory toward Muslims.

On Afghanistan, she stated that US-supplied weapons left behind are being used in cross-border attacks on Pakistani forces and the issue has been raised with Washington. She denied social media rumors of a US airbase in Bagram, emphasizing that such matters concern Afghanistan and the US.

She added that Pakistan is in contact with the US regarding reports of suspended student visas.
