US Imposes Visa Bans on Indian Travel Agents Over Illegal Migration

The United States has imposed visa restrictions on Indian travel agents accused of facilitating illegal migration. Announced on May 19, the move targets owners and senior officials of agencies allegedly involved in smuggling individuals into the U.S. via unauthorized routes. The U.S. State Department emphasized that aiding illegal entry violates immigration laws and warrants strict penalties. This follows a crackdown in Punjab, where authorities raided over 1,200 firms and canceled licenses of 40 agents. The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi also warned of severe consequences for visa overstays, including deportation and long-term entry bans.
