AWP Workers Convention Highlights Call for Workers’ Rights and Anti-Feudal Reforms in Toba Tek Singh
A large and energetic gathering marked the AWP Workers Convention Toba Tek Singh, held on Thursday night in Toba Tek Singh. The convention brought together party workers, women, and citizens from different walks of life, reflecting strong grassroots engagement. Central President of Awami Workers Party, Akhtar Hussain, received a warm welcome and was brought to the venue in a procession upon his arrival. The AWP Workers Convention Toba Tek Singh was presided over by Prof Amir Hamza. Key leaders including Farhat Abbas and Malik Muhammad Azam attended as guests of honor.
In his speech, Farhat Abbas strongly criticized rising inflation, unemployment, and poverty, asserting that current rulers lack a clear roadmap to transform Pakistan into a welfare state. He described the Awami Workers Party as a platform for the oppressed, aiming to establish a worker-farmer system and address socio-economic inequalities. Prof Amir Hamza stressed the need for a class-based political movement in Pakistan. He urged workers to organize regularly, conduct study circles, and strengthen ideological awareness.
He argued that prevailing political forces represent feudal and capitalist interests, contributing to economic dependency and transforming Pakistan into a consumer-driven economy. Addressing the AWP Workers Convention Toba Tek Singh, Akhtar Hussain delivered a strong critique of the political and economic system. He stated that governance in Pakistan has long been dominated by ad hoc policies, leaving citizens deprived of basic rights such as employment, education, healthcare, and justice.
He termed the capitalist system a root cause of inequality and called for:
- Abolition of feudalism
- Implementation of agricultural reforms
- Redistribution of land to landless farmers
- Establishment of a socialist system
He also raised concerns about land allotments, demanding their cancellation and redistribution among peasants. Akhtar Hussain criticized the judicial system, stating that it has failed to deliver justice to ordinary citizens. He highlighted a pending petition regarding agricultural reforms and expressed concern over delays in addressing such issues. He concluded by urging party workers to expand organizational efforts nationwide to build a strong, class-based political movement.
The convention was also attended by Ahmad Naeem Fateh, son of the late kisan leader Chaudhry Fateh Muhammad. The AWP Workers Convention Toba Tek Singh highlighted growing political discourse around workers’ rights, economic justice, and structural reforms in Pakistan. The event underscored the Awami Workers Party’s commitment to representing marginalized communities and advocating systemic change.
