Punjab government approves modern forensic technology, AI systems and province-wide expansion of the Crime Control Department

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has decided to expand the scope of the Crime Control Department (CCD) in view of its role in curbing crime and the public response to its performance. Under this initiative, the CCD will be developed on the model of the world’s five leading crime control agencies.
The department will be equipped with modern forensic facilities, advanced investigative skills, modern technology, AI software, state-of-the-art intelligence surveillance systems, and the latest machinery and equipment. These measures aim to strengthen the department’s ability to trace criminals and monitor criminal activities effectively, with the objective of transforming the CCD into one of the most modern investigative institutions in Pakistan.
The Chief Minister has also approved the establishment of a modern and fully equipped Crime Control Department headquarters. It has further been decided to establish CCD offices, police stations, and residential facilities at divisional, district, and tehsil levels across Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz stated that due to the measures taken by the CCD, there has been a noticeable reduction in murder cases and crimes against women in Punjab. According to official figures, incidents of robbery have decreased by 77 percent compared to last year, while mobile and bag snatching cases have declined by 49 percent, car theft by 17 percent, attempted murder by 31 percent, and kidnapping for ransom by 45 percent.
The Chief Minister also approved assigning the CCD the task of launching a province-wide crackdown on illegal weapons after Eid al-Fitr, as well as taking strict action against those involved in acid attacks against women.
