Crime Remains Unchecked Even in Ramadan; Electricity Meter Stolen After Wires Cut in Harbanspura
The changing nature of crime in Lahore has left residents deeply concerned. Following incidents of electricity theft, cases of electricity meters being stolen have now begun to surface. In the Harbanspura area, near Dial House Bus Stop, unidentified thieves reportedly cut the electric wires and removed an electricity meter installed outside a residential house, spreading fear and anxiety in the locality.
According to the affected resident, Muhammad Masood Butt, the electricity meter installed outside his house was fully operational when unknown individuals, under the cover of darkness, cut the wires and removed the meter. After the incident, he submitted a written application to the concerned office of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO). He further stated that when he approached the police to report the matter, he was informed that confirmation from LESCO was required before a formal case could be registered at the police station. Due to this complicated procedure, the victim is suffering from severe mental stress and anxiety.
Muhammad Masood Butt said that even during the holy month of Ramadan, criminal elements remain active, raising serious questions about the performance of law enforcement agencies. He appealed to higher authorities to take immediate notice of the incident and ensure the safety and security of citizens. Legal experts state that theft of an electricity meter not only falls under theft but also constitutes damage to government property, making it a punishable offense. Strict legal action can be taken against those involved in such crimes.
Residents of the area have expressed grave concern over the rising incidents and demanded increased police patrolling and improved surveillance systems to ensure the protection of life and property.
