Garbage Piles Surround Inspector Rana Shahid Shaheed Chowk, Neglect Sparks Public Outcry

The Inspector Rana Shahid Shaheed Chowk, located in the Tufail Block of Canal Bank Housing Scheme, Lahore, which was named in honor of a brave officer, has now turned into a pile of garbage due to administrative negligence. Trash bags and heaps of garbage can be seen all around the chowk, which is not only polluting the environment but also desecrating the sanctity of the martyr’s memorial. It is worth noting that Inspector Rana Shahid was martyred at this very location. Subsequently, the residents of the area and the concerned authorities named the chowk after him and installed a commemorative board to ensure that his sacrifice would always be remembered. However, over time, maintenance of the site has been almost entirely neglected.
Local residents say that respecting the sacrifices of martyrs is the hallmark of a living nation, but unfortunately, the current situation is the complete opposite. Citizens have expressed deep sorrow and anger at the alleged negligence of the authorities.
Muhammad Amir Butt stated that it is extremely regrettable and unacceptable that garbage heaps have accumulated at a site named after a martyr. He demanded immediate cleaning and a permanent monitoring system.
Sarwar Alam said that if the chowk is officially named after a martyr, then maintaining its dignity is also the responsibility of the administration. Due to the filth, not only are citizens suffering, but the memorial itself is being affected.
Muhammad Inam remarked that the silence of the relevant authorities is a matter of concern. He demanded that the chowk be cleaned and properly maintained so that it can become a source of pride.
Mehboob Alam also stated that if immediate and permanent measures are not taken, citizens may be forced to protest. He demanded that a regular cleaning schedule be established and responsible officials be assigned.
Residents have appealed to the higher authorities to take immediate notice of the matter and ensure the cleaning and upkeep of Inspector Rana Shahid Shaheed Chowk, so that the sanctity of this site can be restored.
