Communist lawmaker <strong data-start=\"2185\" data-end=\"2203\">Oleg Mikhailov<\/strong>, who previously represented the Komi Republic in the State Duma, also shared video from the event.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"19cwg0b\" data-start=\"2342\" data-end=\"2401\">Syktyvkar Election Fraud Protest Follows State Duma Vote<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2403\" data-end=\"2530\">The <strong data-start=\"2407\" data-end=\"2443\">Syktyvkar election fraud protest<\/strong> came as Russian authorities announced the official results of the State Duma election.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2532\" data-end=\"2943\">Russia&#8217;s Central Election Commission said on September 25 that <strong data-start=\"2595\" data-end=\"2650\">United Russia won 349 of the State Duma&#8217;s 450 seats<\/strong>. The Communist Party was allocated 37 seats, followed by the Liberal Democratic Party with 23, New People with 19, A Just Russia with 17 and Rodina with one seat. Four seats went to independent candidates, according to reporting on the announced results.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2945\" data-end=\"3191\">The allegations raised by protest organizers concern voting and counting procedures. These allegations should be distinguished from officially established findings, as claims of election fraud can involve disputed evidence and competing accounts.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3193\" data-end=\"3561\">There was, however, a separate reported incident in Syktyvkar during the election itself. Russian authorities said police seized <strong data-start=\"3322\" data-end=\"3347\">48 pre-marked ballots<\/strong> at polling station No. 62 after a voter reportedly discovered a ballot that had already been marked. The incident was investigated by local authorities and election officials.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3563\" data-end=\"3895\">The rally in Syktyvkar was notable because similar demonstrations had been proposed in several other Russian cities. Applications or notifications for protests were reported in places including Moscow, St Petersburg, Perm, Izhevsk, Kazan, Ulan-Ude, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Krasnodar and Lipetsk.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3897\" data-end=\"4235\">According to reports, Syktyvkar was the first city where a post-election protest specifically challenging alleged election fraud was successfully held. In St Petersburg, organizers were reportedly told that their planned demonstration could not proceed, with authorities citing COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4237\" data-end=\"4511\">The Syktyvkar gathering remained relatively small, with the reported attendance of approximately 100 people. Nevertheless, it represented a public response to allegations surrounding the election and provided an opportunity for opposition supporters to voice their concerns.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4513\" data-end=\"4825\">The Communist Party&#8217;s involvement also gave the demonstration a formal political dimension. The party was the second-largest group in the newly elected State Duma according to the official results, while its regional organization in Komi helped organize the Syktyvkar event.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4827\" data-end=\"5080\">Authorities and election officials have their own procedures for handling complaints about voting irregularities.
