{"id":3539,"date":"2026-10-08T16:57:13","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T16:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southasianchronicle.com\/?p=3539"},"modified":"2026-10-08T16:57:13","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T16:57:13","slug":"russia-glide-bomb-attack-kramatorsk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southasianchronicle.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/08\/russia-glide-bomb-attack-kramatorsk\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian strike on buses kills at least 30, say officials, as deadly attacks on Ukraine surge"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div class=\"Container-styles__ContainerStyled-sc-8b855a6c-0 cPmzSx\" data-component=\"layout-block\">\n<div class=\"Grid-styles__GridStyled-sc-70d90311-0 hRsXiV\">\n<div class=\"GridItem-styles__GridItemStyled-sc-6cc20e4a-0 hUaOpu\">\n<div class=\"LayoutBlock-styles__LayoutBlockStyled-sc-f9c112e7-0 lfegSN\">\n<p class=\"Paragraph-styles__ParagraphStyled-sc-ffb5f5ba-0 fqhmpl\">At least 30 people have been killed in a Russian glide bomb attack on two civilian buses in the eastern front line city of Kramatorsk, rescue officials say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-styles__ParagraphStyled-sc-ffb5f5ba-0 fqhmpl\">Authorities said three people were also killed in the village of Bilenke, part of the Kramatorsk community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-styles__ParagraphStyled-sc-ffb5f5ba-0 fqhmpl\">Another 18 people were wounded, said Donetsk regional head Vadym Filashkin, accusing Russia of targeting buses carrying passengers to kill as many civilians as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-styles__ParagraphStyled-sc-ffb5f5ba-0 fqhmpl\">Kramatorsk and neighbouring Slovyansk are part of a so-called fortress belt that Moscow is trying to seize as part of Russian President Vladimir Putin&#8217;s claim to the entire Ukrainian industrial region of Donbas.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-styles__ParagraphStyled-sc-ffb5f5ba-0 fqhmpl\">Ukraine&#8217;s President Volodymyr Zelensky said: &#8220;This strike will not go without our response.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-styles__ParagraphStyled-sc-ffb5f5ba-0 fqhmpl\">In a post on Telegram, he said: &#8220;Russia is trying to destroy all life in Donbas, and the world needs to react to this. React harshly &#8211; exactly as the Russians deserve for all the deaths they have caused.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-styles__ParagraphStyled-sc-ffb5f5ba-0 fqhmpl\">Images posted by local prosecutors showed the burning metal shell of the bus along with debris and some of the victims on the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-styles__ParagraphStyled-sc-ffb5f5ba-0 fqhmpl\">Moscow is yet to comment on the latest attack. It follows a dramatic surge in Russian attacks across Ukraine and a heavy increase in civilian casualties.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"GridItem-styles__GridItemStyled-sc-6cc20e4a-0 TIwsv\">\n<div class=\"AsideBlock-styles__AsideBlockStickyStyled-sc-1d9f070e-0 Wojx\">\n<div class=\"AdSlot-styles__AdSlotContainerStyled-sc-4b576bed-0 fLRTWz\" data-testid=\"ad-unit\" data-component=\"ad-slot\">\n<div id=\"dotcom-sid_1\" class=\"dotcom-ad active\" data-testid=\"dotcom-sid_1\" data-ad-slot=\"{}\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div class=\"dotcom-ad-inner\">\n<div class=\"dotcom-ad-text-wrapper\">According to the UN, Ukraine saw more civilians killed by August this year than were killed in all of 2025.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Container-styles__ContainerStyled-sc-8b855a6c-0 cPmzSx\" data-component=\"layout-block\">\n<div class=\"Grid-styles__GridStyled-sc-70d90311-0 hRsXiV\">\n<div class=\"GridItem-styles__GridItemStyled-sc-6cc20e4a-0 hUaOpu\">\n<div class=\"LayoutBlock-styles__LayoutBlockStyled-sc-f9c112e7-0 lfegSN\">\n<p class=\"Paragraph-styles__ParagraphStyled-sc-ffb5f5ba-0 fqhmpl\">In one single attack that destroyed a five-storey block of flats in Pryluky east of Kyiv early on Wednesday, 22 people were killed, including five children.
