District Emergency Board Reviews Fire Safety Measures, Orders Strict Enforcement Across Sahiwal
In order to make fire safety arrangements more effective and coordinated across the district, a meeting of the District Emergency Board was held at Montgomery Hall, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Captain (retd) Osama Majeed Cheema. The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioners Maham Wahid and Javed Mumtaz, SDO Para Noman Qaiser, Rescue 1122, Municipal Committee and other concerned department officers. The aim of the meeting was to take a comprehensive review of the prevention of possible fire incidents, emergency response preparedness, institutional coordination and implementation of fire safety laws across the district. Addressing the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Captain (retd) Osama Majeed Cheema said that fire safety is directly related to the protection of human lives and any negligence in this regard will be unacceptable. He directed that the presence of fire-fighting equipment, their functionality and emergency exits should be ensured in all large buildings, commercial plazas, markets, factories, wedding halls, educational institutions and hospitals. He directed the relevant institutions to conduct fire safety audits regularly and take immediate legal action wherever violations of fire safety SOPs are found. He clarified that no commercial or industrial unit will be allowed to operate without fire safety clearance. It was also decided in the meeting that public awareness campaigns regarding fire safety will be launched in Sahiwal district, under which citizens, shopkeepers and industrial workers will be informed about fire prevention precautions and correct response in emergency situations, while it was also agreed to hold joint mock exercises among the concerned institutions to ensure immediate and effective action in any emergency situation. During the meeting, a detailed briefing was given by Rescue 1122 on the resources available, response time and challenges faced, while the concerned departments presented their suggestions to further improve the fire safety system. Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Captain (retd) Usama Majeed Cheema directed all institutions to cooperate with each other, show a sense of responsibility and strictly implement fire safety laws, and said that the district administration will ensure the safety of lives and property of the people at all costs.
