Lahore: The Punjab government has decided not to issue M-Tags to vehicles without a fitness certificate as part of measures to control smog.
In addition to this, the provincial government has taken further actions to combat smog. Vehicles older than 30 years will not be allowed entry into Lahore from October to January, nor will they be permitted to travel on motorways.
To obtain an M-Tag, vehicles will now need to present not only the registration book and license but also a valid fitness certificate.
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan stated that this decision was made in response to the severe smog conditions experienced, and the measure is being implemented with the goal of improving air quality.
He also mentioned that a letter has been sent to the Services and General Administration, requesting details of government vehicles.
Bilal Akbar Khan further emphasized that the fitness certificate rule will first apply to government vehicles, and it is not feasible to impose such measures on the public while the government remains inactive. These orders will be applicable not only to large commercial vehicles but also to private vehicles.
