Malala Yousafzai Urges Muslim Leaders to Oppose Taliban’s Curbs on Women’s Education

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai called on Muslim leaders to refuse to “legitimise” the Afghan Taliban government and to oppose their restrictions on women’s and girls’ education. Speaking at a summit on girls’ education in Islamabad, Pakistan, Yousafzai urged leaders to “use your power” to stand against the Taliban’s actions, emphasizing that they “do not see women as human beings.” She criticized the Taliban for using cultural and religious justifications to cloak their oppressive policies.
