Tesla Cybertrucks parked in Texas as Tesla plans a Cybertruck production wind down in 2027

Tesla to Wind Down Cybertruck Production by Mid-2027, Elon Musk Says

Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas factory around the middle of next year, CEO Elon Musk announced on Friday. He said the space is needed for more Cybercab output. The stainless-steel pickup was once pitched as a rival to the best-selling trucks from Ford and General Motors. It has struggled to find mass-market buyers.

H2: Background: How the Cybertruck Got Here

H3: Tesla Cybertruck release date and launch

Tesla launched the Cybertruck in 2023, according to Reuters. Musk presented it as a futuristic competitor to pickups from GM and Ford. The 2026 Tesla Cybertruck has been on sale for less than four years, based on Motor1’s reading of the mid-2027 timeline.

The truck’s sharp-edged steel body drew strong reactions from the start. Reuters describes the design as polarizing and says it limited the truck’s prospects outside the United States.

H3: Where the truck is built

The Cybertruck is built only at Gigafactory Texas, near Austin. The Associated Press reports that this is the only place where it is produced. Reuters adds that the Austin plant is the only known Tesla site equipped to make the truck’s specialized components.

That is why the wind-down matters. It is not yet clear whether production would move to another factory or end altogether, and Tesla did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

H2: Details: What Musk Announced and Why

H3: The Tesla Cybertruck production wind down plan

In a post on X, Musk said Tesla will be winding down Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas around mid-2027. He said this would make room for increased production of the Cybercab. The Cybercab is a two-seat robotaxi without a steering wheel, pedals or mirrors, and Musk has made it central to Tesla’s robotaxi plans.

Reuters reports that Tesla began offering paid Cybercab rides in a small fleet in Austin in September. The company still has to answer questions from the US auto safety regulator about whether the Cybercab was properly self-certified to meet federal safety standards.

H3: Cybertruck sales decline

Tesla does not publish Cybertruck sales on their own. It reports the truck inside an “Other Models” group, which delivered 8,295 vehicles in the third quarter, down from 12,364 in the second quarter, according to Reuters.

The Associated Press cites Kelley Blue Book estimates that Cybertruck sales fell 48% from 2024 to 2025. From January to September this year, they were down a further 28%. The AP also reports that the truck had several recalls and quality-control problems within months of its debut.

H3: Tesla Cybertruck price in USA and the 2026 price hikes

The Tesla Cybertruck price in the USA has moved several times this year. Electrek reports that Tesla raised prices again today and stopped taking orders for the base Dual Motor trim. According to Electrek’s reading of Tesla’s online configurator, the current prices are:

  • Dual Motor AWD: $82,490, not orderable
  • Premium AWD: $92,490
  • Cyberbeast: $102,490

Electrek says this makes $92,490 the cheapest Cybertruck a buyer can order. In August, the Dual Motor was $74,990 and the Premium AWD was $84,990. Tesla’s 2019 launch promise was a starting price of $39,900, Electrek notes. Third-party sites such as Edmunds and Autofinder list older figures, so prices can differ depending on the source and date.

H2: Quotes: What Tesla Said

Musk replied to a user on X that the Cybertruck is the “best vehicle Tesla has ever made,” Reuters reports. He also called the wind-down the end of an era and said the existing Cybertruck fleet will remain on the road for a long time.

Cybertruck lead engineer Wes Morrill said on X that the truck was a strong technology development platform and will live on through the Cybercab, according to Reuters.

Electrek’s editors read the price rises differently. They argue that Tesla is aiming to earn as much as it can on the last trucks rather than to sell more of them. That is Electrek’s opinion, not a statement from Tesla.

H2: Impact: What the Cybertruck Wind Down Means

H3: Tesla Cybertruck price in India

Tesla has not announced an official Tesla Cybertruck price in India, and I could not find an official India launch. Electrek reports that the truck is not sold in Europe or in most right-hand-drive markets. India drives on the left, so that detail is relevant.

One 2025 report from Siasat cited portals such as CarDekho and Smartprix expecting a range of Rs 55 to Rs 80 lakh. Those are unofficial expectations from before today’s announcement, so treat them as unconfirmed.

H3: Tesla Cybertruck price in Pakistan

PakWheels lists the Cybertruck Cyberbeast at PKR 29,100,000, marked as the starting price for a used variant. Gari.pk shows the same figure as PKR 291 lacs. I found no sign of an official Tesla price in Pakistan, so these are used-market listings that depend on model year, mileage and condition.

H3: Global impact

Outside the United States, the effect is limited because the truck was sold in few markets. Electrek reports that Tesla cancelled the Cybertruck for Australia and New Zealand last month. Within the US, buyers who want a new Cybertruck have a limited window, and owners are told the fleet will continue.

For Tesla, the bigger signal is strategic. The company is giving factory space to the Cybercab, a product that Musk has said will eventually become its highest-volume vehicle.

H2: Conclusion: What Comes Next

The Tesla Cybertruck production wind down is due around mid-2027, but many details are still open. Tesla has not said whether another plant could build the truck, or what happens to parts and service. Buyers should watch Tesla’s configurator for further price and order changes.

The next developments to follow are the Cybercab ramp-up in Texas, the regulator’s questions about its certification, and any statement from Tesla on how long Cybertruck support will continue.

H2: FAQs

H3: How much do Tesla Cybertrucks cost?

The Tesla Cybertruck price in the USA depends on the trim and changes often. Based on Electrek’s report of Tesla’s online configurator on 6 November 2026, the Dual Motor AWD shows $82,490 but cannot currently be ordered. The Premium AWD is $92,490 and the Cyberbeast is $102,490, so the cheapest orderable truck is $92,490.

These figures exclude options, taxes and other fees. Tesla raised prices twice in under three months, once in August and again this week, so check Tesla’s website for today’s number before budgeting. Prices in other countries differ, and some third-party listings still show older US prices.

H3: What is the price of the Cybertruck in Pakistan?

I could not find an official Tesla price for the Cybertruck in Pakistan. PakWheels lists the Cyberbeast from PKR 29,100,000, described as the starting price for a used variant. Gari.pk shows the ex-showroom price as PKR 291 lacs, and its on-road estimates run slightly higher once taxes and registration fees are added.

These are marketplace figures, not Tesla prices. Used import prices vary with the truck’s model year, mileage, condition and import costs, so buyers should verify any listing and the applicable duties themselves before paying.

H3: Where is Cybertruck produced?

The Cybertruck is produced at Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas, near Austin, and nowhere else, according to the Associated Press. Reuters adds that the Austin plant is the only known Tesla facility equipped to make the truck’s specialized components.

Musk says production will wind down there around mid-2027 to make space for the Cybercab. Tesla has not said whether the Cybertruck would be built at another factory or phased out entirely.
