Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s body has arrived in Washington, D.C., for three days of ceremonies celebrating his life and legacy. Carter, who served as the 39th president from 1977 to 1981, passed away at 99.

Lying in state at the U.S. Capitol, the public can pay respects to a leader who championed human rights and earned a Nobel Peace Prize for his post-presidential work. A state funeral at the Washington National Cathedral will honor his lifetime of service, compassion, and global impact.
