Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has approached the Supreme Court against the 26th Constitutional Amendment, filing a petition to declare it unconstitutional. PTI, through lawyer Samir Khosla, has also requested a halt to judicial appointments by the Judicial Commission until a decision is made on the amendment. Opposition leader Umar Ayub, in the petition, argued that the 26th Amendment undermines the independence of the judiciary, which is a fundamental part of the Constitution, and cannot be altered. Other parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami and the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, have also challenged the amendment in the Supreme Court, while former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has challenged it in the Sindh High Court.
