Toba Tek Singh: Deputy Commissioner Umar Abbas Mela formally inaugurated the Toba Tek Singh Women Hockey Festival 2025. The opening ceremony was held at Gojra International Hockey Stadium, attended by Assistant Commissioner Gojra, Chief Officer District Council, District Sports Officer, Event Director Khawar Javed, hockey players and a large number of spectators.The festival will continue from December 26 to December 31, aiming to provide greater opportunities for women athletes and promote hockey in the region. Eight teams are participating in the tournament, divided into two groups: Pool A includes Karachi, Sahiwal, Islamabad and Gojra Color, while Pool B features Lahore, Bahawalpur, Gojra White and Faisalabad.More than 150 players and officials from across Pakistan are participating in the event and Gojra has the honor of hosting this tournament in a world-class hockey stadium. The matches began on December 26, with Lahore facing Faisalabad at 1:00 pm and Karachi taking on Gojra Color at 3:00 pm. Following the group matches, the semi-finals are scheduled for December 30, and the final will be held on December 31.
Deputy Commissioner Umar Abbas Mela said that under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Khailta Punjab Vision, the festival provides an excellent opportunity to empower women athletes and promote hockey. He added that the district administration will ensure all possible facilities are provided to make the event successful and memorable for spectators. He further emphasized that such events encourage the younger generation to participate in sports and promote healthy activities.
