Mega Sewerage Upgradation Project Underway in Tehsil Jhang, Billions Being Spent Under Punjab Development Programme to Resolve Civic Issues: Commissioner Faisalabad

Faisalabad: On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, rapid progress is being made on a mega sewerage upgradation and rehabilitation project in Tehsil Jhang under the Punjab Development Programme. The project, being executed by WASA at a cost of approximately Rs. 4.75 billion, is aimed at resolving long-standing sewerage issues of more than 650,000 residents and around 300,000 households of the city. In addition, Rs. 9 billion is being spent on the overall rehabilitation of the sewerage system in District Jhang.

These views were expressed by Commissioner Faisalabad Raja Jahangir Anwar during his visit to Tehsil Jhang, where he inspected the under-construction disposal station at Aliabad. Deputy Commissioner Jhang Ali Akbar Bhinder and other officers were also present. The Commissioner reviewed various sections of the disposal station and appreciated the ongoing initiatives of WASA.

Briefing the Commissioner, the Managing Director WASA informed that rehabilitation of a 400-kilometer sewerage network of the city is included in the project. The Commissioner directed that all available machinery be utilized to complete this important project before the monsoon season and to ensure timely desilting operations.

Expressing satisfaction over the resolution of public complaints and positive public feedback since the establishment of WASA, the Commissioner stressed that this momentum of public service must be maintained. During the visit, the state-of-the-art Maryam Nawaz Sharif Family Park, spread over 30 kanals in Satellite Town, Tehsil Jhang, was opened for the public. The Commissioner inaugurated the beautification and rehabilitation work of the park and termed it a valuable gift from the Punjab Chief Minister to the citizens.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction over the facilities available in the park, including an open-air gymnasium, swings, jogging track, washrooms, fountains, gazebos, decorative lighting, horticulture work, and other recreational amenities. He also interacted with visitors present in the park.

During the tour, the Commissioner inspected cleanliness arrangements at the central graveyard and directed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure proper funeral areas, quality sanitation, boundary walls, and lighting in the city’s five major graveyards. He also visited the District Headquarters Hospital, inspected various departments, inquired from patients about the availability of medicines, and reviewed the ongoing treatment process.

The Commissioner stated that strict inspections of hospitals across the division are underway to ensure uninterrupted and efficient healthcare services. He informed that, on the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister, the number of beds at the hospital is being increased, with 100 additional beds to be added soon. He also checked the functionality of medical machinery and emphasized that making hospitals complaint-free across the division is a top priority.

The Commissioner further inaugurated the carpeting work of the road from Main Bhakkar Road to Kacha Multan Link Road and inspected the quality of construction. He said that weekly visits to tehsils across the division are being conducted to ensure the provision of municipal services to citizens. He added that each week one tehsil in all four districts is being targeted, with all district headquarters resources deployed there, and this practice will continue on a permanent basis.
