Toyota’s Hino Motors Pleads Guilty to U.S. Emissions Fraud, Fined $1.6 Billion

Hino Motors, a subsidiary of Toyota, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a multi-year emissions fraud scheme in the United States and has been ordered to pay $1.6 billion in penalties, the U.S. Justice Department announced.

The company admitted to falsifying emissions data to mislead regulators and consumers. The settlement marks one of the largest penalties in an auto industry emissions case, highlighting stricter enforcement against environmental violations.
