The federal government has approved the promotion of General Syed Asim Munir (Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military) to the rank of Field Marshal. The decision was made during a key federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to the official statement, General Munir’s promotion comes in recognition of his exceptional strategic leadership during Operation Bunyad-e-Marsous, which led to a decisive defeat of the enemy. His elevation marks a historic milestone for the Pakistan Army.
The cabinet also unanimously decided to extend the service of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Babar Sidhu upon the completion of his tenure, acknowledging his continued value to the armed forces.
Furthermore, the government will bestow top civilian awards on those who rendered outstanding services during Operation Bunyad-e-Marsous. This includes the heroes and martyrs of the Pakistan Armed Forces, as well as civilian contributors to the operation.
The cabinet lauded General Munir’s unmatched leadership, crediting it for Pakistan’s historic success in what it termed the “battle of truth.” It praised his bravery, resolve, and the way he harmonized the military’s strategic operations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also met with the President of Pakistan to brief him on the cabinet’s decisions regarding this landmark development.
