Top Chinese General Xu Qiliang Dies at 75

Top Chinese general Xu Qiliang, a close ally of President Xi Jinping and former vice chair of the powerful Central Military Commission, died of illness at age 75 on Monday in Beijing, state media reported. Xu played a key role in modernizing China’s military and was the first air force officer to hold such a senior position in the PLA. His death comes amid ongoing anti-corruption efforts within China’s military ranks.
