Over 70 sewage-filled ponds cleared, plot owners warned to build boundary walls

Faisalabad: On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the divisional administration has launched emergency measures across Faisalabad Division to drain sewage-contaminated water from ponds and stagnant pools posing serious health and safety risks, and so far more than 70 such ponds and pools have been cleared and secured, Commissioner Faisalabad Raja Jahangir Anwar visited Chak 189 R.B. Munian-wala and inspected the ongoing dewatering operation aimed at drying the sewage-filled pond, Assistant Commissioner Tehsil Sadar Dr. Zulqarnain Saleem briefed the commissioner about the operation, the commissioner appreciated the drainage work carried out on the vacant plot, the on-site safety arrangements and the sealing of all access routes to the plot and commended the Assistant Commissioner Sadar for effective supervision, dewatering sets along with heavy machinery of the Suthra Punjab program were actively engaged in the drainage operation, the commissioner emphasized that protection of human lives is the top priority of the administration and all administrative machinery is fully active to eliminate such hazardous ponds across the division on a priority basis, he said that notices have been issued to owners of vacant plots directing them to construct boundary walls around their properties, warning that legal action will be taken in case of non-compliance.
