QUETTA: Unidentified armed men attacked the Quetta-Taftan National Highway (N-40) in Balochistan and set three vehicles on fire, causing fear and panic among travellers and transporters in the area.
According to details, the incident took place in the area between Taftan and Nokkundi, where armed men intercepted vehicles travelling along the Quetta-Taftan highway and allegedly set three of them ablaze before fleeing the scene.
Transport sources said the vehicles targeted in the attack included a trailer, a 10-wheeler truck and an oil tanker. The vehicles sustained significant damage after being set on fire.
The incident triggered panic in the surrounding area, while the attackers managed to escape before security personnel arrived. The attack also raised concerns among transporters travelling on the strategically important N-40 highway.
After receiving information about the incident, police and Levies personnel launched a search operation in the area to trace the attackers and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Officials have not yet provided further details regarding casualties or arrests in connection with the incident. The motive behind the attack also remains unclear.
The Quetta-Taftan National Highway is an important transport route connecting Quetta with Taftan and areas near Pakistan’s border with Iran. Any disruption on the route can affect the movement of commercial vehicles and goods between the regions.
