Punjab Housing Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal Reviews Major Water Projects in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Punjab Housing Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal has said that provision of clean drinking water to the citizens of Faisalabad is among the government’s top priorities, while environment-friendly water projects are being completed on a fast-track basis in accordance with the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.He expressed these views during his visit to two major water projects in Faisalabad. The secretary inspected the 33-million-gallon-per-day (MGD) Eastern Wastewater Treatment Plant, being constructed with the cooperation of Denmark and the 30-MGD Surface Water Treatment Plant Phase-II, being developed with French cooperation.
Noor-ul-Amin Mengal directed the authorities concerned to ensure that all construction and allied works linked with both projects were completed within the stipulated deadlines.The provincial secretary said the two projects would play a significant role in improving Faisalabad’s water supply system and would help provide clean drinking water to a large section of the city’s population.
He said a 25-MGD Surface Water Treatment Plant was also being constructed, while an additional five million gallons of water per day would be added to the system through the expansion of the Jhal Water Treatment Plant.The secretary further said that the combined capacity of the two major projects stood at 63 MGD, which would facilitate the provision of clean drinking water to more than 1.3 million citizens.
During the visit, Chinese experts working on the projects briefed the secretary on the progress of construction activities and various technical aspects. WASA Faisalabad Managing Director Saqib Raza also accompanied the secretary and apprised him of the progress being made on the projects.
