A suicide blast near the Darazinda Aman Mela check post on the D.I. Khan-Quetta Road in Dera Ismail Khan left 11 people martyred and more than 30 injured on Saturday evening, according to police and security sources.
According to initial reports, terrorists rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the joint anti-smuggling Aman Mela check post established in the Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan.
The powerful explosion caused heavy casualties at the checkpoint and nearby area. Police and security sources said 11 people were martyred, while more than 30 others sustained injuries.
The martyrs reportedly include six police personnel, two Customs officials, two women and a two-year-old child.
The Aman Mela check post is a joint checkpoint where personnel from the Police, Customs, Excise and Wildlife departments are deployed for anti-smuggling and security duties.
The blast caused significant damage and prompted an immediate emergency response from local authorities.
Soon after the explosion, a heavy contingent of Rescue 1122 and security forces reached the site.
Rescue teams immediately began operations and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Medical teams were also mobilized to provide emergency care to those wounded in the attack.
Security forces cordoned off the area following the blast to secure the site and prevent any further threat.
The Darazinda Aman Mela check post blast has also prompted authorities to begin a search operation in the surrounding area.
