Pakistan’s First Tree Transplantation Orchard Opens to the Public in Faisalabad

By Zafar Chishti, Bureau Chief Punjab, Pakistan

FAISALABAD: Under the environment-friendly vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan’s first Tree Transplantation Orchard has opened to the public at Bagh-e-Jinnah in Faisalabad. So far, 166 trees aged between 30 and 60 years have been transplanted to the orchard after coming in the way of the Metro Bus Project routes.

Commissioner Faisalabad Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh visited the Tree Transplantation Orchard and inspected the replanted trees. Incharge Women Cricket PCB Rafia Haider, Additional Commissioners Qaiser Abbas Rind, Tanveer Murtaza and Afzal Tarar, Director Development Asif Iqbal Chauhan, Managing Director Horticulture Agency Dilawar Khan, Assistant Commissioner General Dr. Zeeshan Irshad, representatives of the Save The Plant organisation, members of civil society and other officials were also present.

Congratulating the citizens of Faisalabad on the establishment of the country’s first Tree Transplantation Orchard, Commissioner Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh said that similar orchards were also being established at Kaleem Shaheed Park and Iqbal Park (Dhobi Ghat Ground).

He informed that 59 trees had been transplanted at Kaleem Shaheed Park and 127 at Iqbal Park (Dhobi Ghat Ground).

According to the commissioner, out of 795 trees affected by the Metro Bus Project routes, a total of 352 had been replanted in the three orchards so far. The transplantation of the remaining trees was continuing at a rapid pace.

The commissioner appreciated the efforts of the Horticulture Agency and the Save The Tree organisation for their role in the tree transplantation initiative. He invited the people of Faisalabad to visit the orchard with their families and observe the efforts being made to preserve trees.

He said that providing a clean environment for future generations was a collective responsibility. He added that the people of Faisalabad had demonstrated their commitment to maintaining a healthy environment and protecting trees.

Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh emphasised that protecting trees meant protecting future generations and preserving the environment and cultural heritage. He said these efforts would continue in the future.
