TORONTO, CANADA: Prominent Pakistani-Canadian businessman Rizwan Pasha, associated with the printing industry, hosted a prestigious gathering at his residence on Sunday morning in honour of Sindh Governor Syed Nehal Hashmi.
The event was attended by Consul General of Pakistan Khalil Ahmed Bajwa, Canadian Member of Parliament Aslam Rana, Vice Consul Muhammad Hassan, prominent political and business figures, and distinguished members of the Pakistani community.
The ceremony was conducted by Arif Sheikh, who introduced Governor Hashmi and highlighted his political, social and national contributions. Muhammad Ishaq also played an important role in assisting with the arrangements and organization of the event.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Syed Nehal Hashmi expressed his pleasure at witnessing the progress and achievements of the Pakistani community in Canada, particularly its growing influence in politics, business and social development.
He said overseas Pakistanis had strengthened Pakistan’s international reputation through their hard work, dedication and professional accomplishments. Their achievements in various fields, he added, were a source of pride for the entire nation.
The Governor stated that Pakistan had established a significant position on the global stage. He credited the diplomatic efforts of Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Field Marshal for enhancing the country’s international recognition and standing.
Governor Pays Tribute to Quaid-e-Azam
Paying tribute to the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Governor Hashmi emphasized that Pakistan was established through democratic struggle, the power of the ballot and the tireless leadership of its founder.
He recalled that he had attended the same educational institution as Quaid-e-Azam, belonged to the same city and, like Pakistan’s founder, was a lawyer by profession.
Referring to Quaid-e-Azam’s historical legacy, Governor Hashmi said that two rooms associated with the founder of Pakistan at the Governor House in Sindh had been carefully preserved with the utmost respect.
Expressing his deep reverence, he remarked that he would never consider using the rooms or chair once occupied by Quaid-e-Azam, describing them as national treasures and an invaluable part of Pakistan’s historical heritage.
He emphasized the importance of following Quaid-e-Azam’s vision, democratic principles and national unity to lead Pakistan towards greater progress, prosperity and development.
Sixteen Pakistani Canadians Honoured for 50 Years in Canada
One of the most memorable highlights of the ceremony was the recognition of Pakistani-origin individuals and couples who had completed 50 years of residence in Canada.
A total of 16 individuals and couples were honoured with specially designed commemorative shields, watches, gifts and certificates of appreciation bearing the signature of Governor Syed Nehal Hashmi.
The Governor personally congratulated each recipient, inquired about their well-being and acknowledged their five decades of dedication, perseverance and contributions to Canadian society.
He described the honourees as valuable assets to both Pakistan and Canada, noting that they had built successful lives, created opportunities for future generations and preserved their Pakistani cultural identity, traditions and emotional connection with their homeland.
Governor Hashmi said the occasion was a unique and heartwarming experience for him. He expressed admiration for the enduring love and attachment that Pakistani Canadians continued to maintain with Pakistan despite living abroad for half a century.
He also appreciated the hospitality of host Rizwan Pasha and his family, particularly the traditional Pakistani breakfast, warm reception and excellent arrangements.
