Pakistan Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi Accepts Five Percent Match Fee Fine After Team Falls One Over Short in Lahore Final
LAHORE: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday fined Pakistan five percent of its match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the tri-series final against Sri Lanka in Lahore.
Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by three wickets on Saturday to claim their first-ever home one-day international (ODI) tri-series title.
According to an ICC statement, match referee Jeff Crowe found Pakistan one over short after accounting for time allowances.
As a result, the team received a penalty of five percent of its match fee for the slow over-rate offence.
Shaheen Shah Afridi Accepts ICC Sanction
Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction. Consequently, the matter did not require a formal hearing.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz.
Pakistan Win Home ODI Tri-Series Title
Despite the penalty, Pakistan celebrated an important victory by defeating Sri Lanka by three wickets in the final to secure the ODI tri-series trophy on home soil.
