Karachi: A Provincial Consultation on the Draft Sindh Gender Parity Report (SGPR) was organized by the Human Rights Department, Government of Sindh, to review the draft report and seek input from key stakeholders.
The consultation was chaired by the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Human Rights Department, Mr. Rajvir Singh Sodha, and led by the Secretary, Human Rights Department, Mr. Khalid Chachar along with the Secretary, Women Development Department, Mr. Rashid Ahmed Zardari. In his remarks, Mr. Sodha emphasized the importance of promoting women’s inclusion at all levels and highlighted women’s ownership of assets, including land and vehicles, as a critical factor for economic empowerment. He stated that the Government of Sindh would engage with relevant departments to explore incentives for registering property and assets in women’s names.
Mr. Khalid Chachar provided an overview of the mandate assigned to the Human Rights Department by the Honourable Chief Secretary Sindh, while Mr. Rashid Ahmed Zardari appreciated the efforts of the Human Rights Department and its team in advancing the preparation of the report.The Chairperson, Sindh Commission on the Status of Women, Ms. Rubina Brohi, underscored the need to address gaps in the draft report through enhanced consultations with concerned departments. The Communication Specialist and Gender Focal Person, Human Rights Department, Ms. Kiran Zubair, presented the background of the initiative and briefed participants on the rigorous and consultative data collection process undertaken with line departments.A detailed presentation on the draft Sindh Gender Parity Report was delivered by SPO, followed by an interactive discussion and feedback from participants. The consultation brought together representatives from government departments, commissions, development partners, civil society organizations, academia and NGOs. Stakeholder feedback contributed to refining the report and strengthening its alignment with provincial priorities and gender parity objectives.The consultation was supported by UNFPA and moderated by Mr. Jameel Hussain Junejo, Executive Coordinator, Treaty Implementation Cell.
