Pakistan Medical Association Lahore President Professor Shahid Malik has expressed serious concern over the withholding of transfer orders of 580 doctors in the Health and Population Department on the verbal instructions of the Health Secretary. He has appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister to immediately issue transfer orders of doctors and deploy them in teaching hospitals so that better medical facilities can be provided to the patients.
Professor Shahid Malik said that during the tenure of former Health Secretary Ali Jan, transfer of doctors from teaching hospitals to primary and from primary to teaching hospitals was a routine administrative process, however, after the appointment of the current Health Secretary, all transfers have been centralized and practically stopped, due to which doctors have been forced to wander around to obtain recommendations.
He pointed out that even those doctors who have completed three years of compulsory service in rural areas are being affected, despite this, their transfer orders are not being issued, although the teaching hospitals of the province are currently facing a severe shortage of doctors.
The President PMA Lahore further said that due to lack of coordination between the secretaries of the Health Department and the Health and Population Department, the system of both departments is being badly affected, which is directly affecting not only the doctors but also the patients.
