FDA Launches Major Crackdown Against Illegal Housing Schemes

203 Operations Conducted, Offices Sealed, 49 Prosecution Cases Filed

Faisalabad: The Town Planning Wing of the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) carried out extensive operations against illegal housing schemes during the year 2005, conducting 203 enforcement actions that resulted in the demolition of unauthorized structures and sealing of offices. In cases involving serious violations, 49 prosecution cases were filed in different police stations for the registration of FIRs against the developers involved.

This was disclosed during a meeting chaired by Director General FDA, Muhammad Asif Chaudhry, in which the overall performance of the Town Planning Wing was reviewed. The meeting was attended by Director Town Planning Asma Mohsin, Director IT Yasir Ejaz Chattha, Deputy Directors Town Planning Raheel Zafar, Ahmed Ibrahim, Iqra Murtaza, Faran Siddiqui, and other concerned officers.

The meeting was informed that during the previous year, action was taken against illegal development in various housing schemes and 86 challans were submitted to the court of the Special Judicial Magistrate. In addition, the concerned departments were formally approached to impose a ban on the provision of utility services in unapproved housing schemes. Moreover, action was taken to impose restrictions on plot registrations and transfers in 397 housing schemes.

Director Town Planning Asma Mohsin stated that a public awareness campaign regarding illegal housing schemes is also underway through social media and other communication channels to keep citizens informed.

DG FDA Muhammad Asif Chaudhry directed that a zero-tolerance policy against illegal housing schemes must be strictly enforced and that enforcement teams should remain fully active. He emphasized that there should be no relaxation or decline in the performance of the Town Planning Wing during the current year.

He further stressed ensuring the rule of law and stated that effective and comprehensive strategies must be implemented to achieve organized urban development and planned town planning. Emphasizing fast service delivery, he said that there should be no hurdles in implementing modern, digital technology-based reforms for the real-time issuance of town planning reports, completion certificates, and possession slips.
