Senator Khalil Tahir Sandhu Highlights Pakistan’s Constructive Role During the U.S.–Iran Tensions, Interfaith Harmony and Religious Freedom at Acton University

 

*Michigan, USA:* Addressing Acton University 2026 in Michigan, Senator Khalil Tahir Sandhu, Pakistan’s only Christian Senator, highlighted Pakistan’s constructive and responsible diplomatic role during the recent U.S.–Iran tensions. He stated that Pakistan made effective efforts to promote peace, dialogue and mutual trust in the region, reflecting the country’s commitment to a peaceful foreign policy.
He emphasized that lasting peace cannot be achieved through the use of force alone, but through diplomacy, mutual respect, dialogue and international cooperation. He noted that Pakistan has consistently played a positive role in promoting regional stability and the peaceful resolution of conflicts and will continue its efforts to advance peace in the future.
During his address, Senator Sandhu also highlighted Pakistan’s progress in promoting religious freedom, interfaith harmony and the protection of minority rights. He said that the government, religious institutions and civil society are working together to build an inclusive society where people of all faiths enjoy equal rights, dignity and respect.
He further stressed that faith leaders and religious communities have a vital role in promoting social cohesion, tolerance and unity, adding that interfaith dialogue remains essential for countering hatred, division and extremism.
Senator Sandhu was accompanied by Shahid Rehmat, Founder and Executive Director of the Youth Development Foundation Pakistan, Fr. Akash and Clive Joseph. Together, they reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to building an inclusive and peaceful society through interfaith dialogue, youth leadership, community engagement and collaborative peacebuilding initiatives.
The conference brought together Catholic priests, bishops, archbishops, representatives of the Vatican, members of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, academics, policymakers and faith leaders from around the world. Participants engaged in extensive discussions on global peace, religious freedom and interfaith cooperation.
