Pakistan Secures IMF Agreement to Lower Electricity Prices

Islamabad: Pakistani officials have successfully persuaded the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to agree on lowering electricity prices.

Negotiations between Pakistan and the IMF are ongoing for a $1 billion tranche. During this, energy sector officials held meetings with the IMF delegation over the course of today and tomorrow.

Sources indicate that Pakistani authorities have convinced the IMF to reduce the electricity rate by 2 rupees per unit. Additionally, discussions were held to decrease the base tariff by 1.5 to 2 rupees.
