Jeay Sindh Mahaz Announces Protests Against Indus River Dams on October 26

Sanghar: Jeay Sindh Mahaz Chairman, Riaz Chandio, has announced protests on October 26 in Matiari and Qambar Shahdadkot against the construction of six dams on the Indus River. Speaking at Tando Adam Press Club, Chandio condemned the approval of the 26th Amendment Bill in the Senate and Assembly, calling it a dark day in history. He criticized the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) for supporting the bill, accusing them of pushing the country towards injustice and darkness.
Chandio also slammed Zardari’s 17-year tenure, stating that it brought no benefit to the people except for personal gain. He lamented that despite 35 years passing, Sindh still hasn’t received its rightful share of water under the 1991 Water Accord. Now, the plan to build six dams is aimed at pushing the prosperous Sindh towards hunger and devastation. He further expressed concern over land grabs across the province, from Keenjhar to Karoonjhar and Thar to Kohistan, and highlighted the dire state of food supply in Sindh, comparing it to conditions worse than Sudan. Chandio urged the people of Sindh to condemn these actions and participate in the planned sit-ins on October 26 as a show of solidarity with their land.
Leaders Punhal Jamali, Abrar Morai, Parvez Chandio, Dr. Zahid Kerio, and Manthar Choolyani were also present during the press conference.
