ISLAMABAD, May 31, 2025 — Marking World No Tobacco Day, SPARC and Youth Advocates Against Tobacco (YAAT) called for a significant increase in tobacco taxes to curb youth smoking in Pakistan. The event featured performances and creative messages from young advocates condemning the tobacco industry’s targeting of youth.
SPARC’s Dr. Khalil Ahmad Dogar proposed a Rs. 39 hike in cigarette taxes, citing over 160,000 annual tobacco-related deaths and revenue losses due to tax evasion. Educational leaders also emphasized creating tobacco-free environments in schools and colleges.
The campaign highlights the urgent need for policy reforms and youth engagement to build a healthier, smoke-free Pakistan
