Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey is projected to make a massive impact at the global box office, with early forecasts suggesting the film could open to more than $200 million worldwide during its debut weekend.
Industry estimates predict the adaptation of Homer’s legendary Greek epic will earn between $90 million and $100 million across North America in its opening weekend. If audience demand continues at its current pace, some analysts believe domestic earnings could surpass $100 million, while global ticket sales may exceed $220 million.
A major driver behind the strong projections is overwhelming demand for IMAX screenings, as The Odyssey was filmed entirely using IMAX cameras. Reports indicate that many 70mm IMAX showings have already sold out ahead of the film’s theatrical release, reflecting exceptional audience interest.
The excitement surrounding the film has also been fueled by Nolan’s previous blockbuster, Oppenheimer, which became a worldwide box office success and won multiple Academy Awards, further raising expectations for his latest project.
With a reported production budget of around $250 million, The Odyssey is said to be the most expensive film of Nolan’s career. Strong reviews and positive word-of-mouth could help the film become one of the biggest box office hits of 2026.
Based on Homer’s classic tale, the film stars Matt Damon as the legendary Greek hero Odysseus. The ensemble cast also includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, and Benny Safdie.
The Odyssey is scheduled to arrive in cinemas worldwide on July 17, 2026.
