(BY: Tayyab Habib Khan, Bureau Chief Civil Division)

A training workshop on fine arts was organized for the trainee officers of Punjab Prison Staff Training College at Sahiwal Arts Council, with the aim of providing mental comfort to the officers with tough duties through the elegance of art.

On this occasion, Punjab Prison Staff Training College Commandant Malik Shaukat Feroz Awan, while talking to the trainee officers, shed light on a very important intellectual aspect. He said that prison duty is very tough and nerve-wracking, due to which officers often fall victim to psychological problems. He said that due to constant pressure and harsh environment, a tendency of bitterness and violence starts developing in the attitudes, which not only hinders service delivery but also creates a negative impression of the department among the public.

Malik Shaukat Feroz Awan further said that connecting with art and fine arts is not just entertainment but a necessity. Art instills feelings of relaxation, mental balance and love in the human instinct. When an officer is mentally calm and familiar with the beauty of art, he will be able to deal with prisoners and the public in a better way, which will improve both the performance and image of the department.

Director Arts Council Dr. Riaz Hamdani, while addressing the ceremony, said that inter-agency relations are the top priority of Sahiwal Arts Council and we are playing our full role in bringing the cultural policies of the Punjab government to the grassroots level.

The highlight of the workshop was the presence of renowned art experts, including renowned calligrapher Abdul Mateen, Munawar Hussain Advocate and Raza. These experts provided art training to the officers under training and discussed the nuances of art with them. The participation of young artists in this dialogue provided special help in the process of mental training of the officers.

The officers appreciated the work of the artists and called it an excellent means of getting rid of mental stress.
