First-Ever District Marathon

Thousands participate in Toba Tek Singh’s first marathon, promoting fitness, unity and a healthy lifestyle

TOBA TEK SINGH: The first-ever marathon in the history of Toba Tek Singh district concluded successfully on Sunday amid enthusiastic public participation, exemplary arrangements and a festive atmosphere. Thousands of athletes along with a large number of citizens, took part in the historic event, turning it into a strong symbol of public engagement and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. Athletes from across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, participated in the marathon, highlighting its national significance. The marathon was held under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner Umar Abbas Mela, while the district administration ensured comprehensive arrangements, including security, traffic management, rescue services and medical facilities. Special emphasis was placed on the safety of athletes and the convenience of the public throughout the event. A total of 6,206 athletes registered for the marathon. According to details, 4,281 athletes competed in the 5-kilometre race, 1,153 under-13 athletes participated in the 2.5-kilometre category, while 722 athletes took part in the 10-kilometre race. The deputy commissioner formally inaugurated all races, which were completed smoothly according to the designated routes and schedules. Large crowds, including families, youth, senior citizens and sports enthusiasts, gathered at various points along the routes to cheer the participants.The vibrant public response added to the festive spirit of the event and reinforced the message of adopting a healthy and active lifestyle. The concluding ceremony was held at the sub-campus of the University of Agriculture, where medals, trophies, cash prizes and other awards were distributed among outstanding performers. Senior officials, including ADCR Waqar Akbar Cheema, ADCG Zeeshan Labbah Masih, Assistant Commissioners Munawar Hussain Kamlana Sial and Sadaf Irshad, Chief Officer District Council Kashif Mahmood, Chief Officer Education, District Information OfficerShahbaz Ansari, District Sports Officer (DSO) Chaudhary Muhammad Jamil and heads of various departments were also present. Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Umar Abbas Mela congratulated all administrative departments, security agencies and concerned officials on the successful, peaceful and well-organised conduct of the marathon. He said the event aimed to promote sports among youth and raise awareness about a healthy, active and positive lifestyle. He added that the overwhelming public response reflected the community’s growing interest in sports and health-related activities and similar large-scale events would continue to be organised in the district.
