On Friday, the Wyoming Department of Health announced its first human case of H5N1 bird flu, marking the third hospitalization due to the infection in the United States. The patient, a woman with pre-existing health conditions, likely contracted the virus through direct contact with infected poultry. Since April, approximately 70 H5N1 infections have been reported in the U.S., primarily among farm workers handling infected animals, resulting in one death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains that the risk to the general public remains low. In response to the outbreak, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has conditionally approved Zoetis to use its bird flu vaccine for poultry.
