MQM Rabita Committee Statement – London, 15 June 2026

Media trial, false cases and political vendetta against Altaf Hussain and MQM must end now
We thank Allah that truth has once again prevailed — but who will account for the wasted years of innocent workers, the suffering of families, and the oppression inflicted upon the Mohajir nation?

The Rabita Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement has strongly condemned the ongoing media trial against MQM, politically motivated cases, prolonged imprisonment of workers, enforced disappearances, and unconstitutional restrictions imposed on MQM founder Altaf Hussain. The Committee stated that history has repeatedly proven that major cases, allegations, and propaganda campaigns mounted against MQM have ultimately been exposed in courts as false, fabricated, baseless, or driven by political vendetta — yet throughout this period, MQM workers, their families, and the entire community have endured unimaginable suffering.

The Rabita Committee said that by the grace of Allah, truth has prevailed in every difficult moment and MQM workers have been vindicated by the courts — but the bitter reality remains that by the time truth emerges, innocent workers have already spent precious years behind bars, homes have been destroyed, mothers have grown old waiting for their sons, children have been deprived of their fathers, and families have been pushed to the brink of economic, social, and psychological ruin.

The Committee noted that the history of false allegations against Altaf Hussain and MQM is not new. At one time the fabricated Jinnahpur conspiracy was used against them; then the Major Kaleem case was used to justify a state operation against MQM; then MQM workers were implicated in the Hakeem Mohammed Saeed murder case; and for years the tragic Baldia factory fire was weaponised as a political narrative against MQM. In every instance, MQM, its leadership, and workers were first convicted through media trial, followed by arrests, torture, cases, imprisonment, and political persecution — and only years later did the courts reveal the truth.

The Rabita Committee stated that a systematic media trial has been conducted against MQM in every era. Through television screens, newspaper headlines, commentary, and propaganda campaigns, MQM workers were portrayed as criminals before any court verdict. The question is: when courts acquit these workers, when charges go unproven, when evidence is found weak or inadmissible — who will account for those lost years? Who will answer to the families who watched their loved ones languish in prison for years? Who will give back the tears of the mothers who spent their lives believing in their sons’ innocence?

The Committee said that the Baldia factory fire was a deeply tragic human disaster in which hundreds of workers lost their lives. MQM shares in the grief of the affected families and has consistently maintained that the actual perpetrators must be identified through a transparent, impartial, and legal process. However, this tragedy was also exploited for political purposes, and MQM was once again subjected to media trial and political victimisation. Now that court verdicts have raised fresh questions, the state, investigative agencies, prosecution, and media must all reflect on their role.
The Rabita Committee stated that the greatest target of political vendetta against MQM has been the movement’s founder, Altaf Hussain. Restrictions placed on his speeches, statements, photographs, political activities, and contact with the public are not only undemocratic but are contrary to freedom of expression, political freedom, the right to vote, and fundamental human rights. Suppressing a political leader’s voice, severing a party from its founder, and depriving millions of their political rights runs against the constitution, democracy, and the principles of justice.

The Rabita Committee made clear that the campaign of political vendetta, false cases, media trials, unconstitutional restrictions, enforced disappearances, arrests, and persecution of workers against MQM and Altaf Hussain must now end. MQM believes that truth cannot be suppressed forever. Allah is always with the truth, and history bears witness that lies, coercion, and propaganda may prevail temporarily — but ultimate victory always belongs to truth, justice, and the oppressed.

The Committee’s demands are as follows:

All unconstitutional and unlawful restrictions on Altaf Hussain’s speeches, statements, photographs, and political activities must be lifted immediately.
MQM must be granted the full right to conduct its peaceful, democratic, and political activities freely.
The cases of all imprisoned MQM workers must be reviewed immediately in a transparent and impartial manner.
MQM workers who have been forcibly disappeared must be recovered immediately or produced before courts in accordance with the law.
Those responsible for destroying workers’ lives through false cases, coerced confessions, political vendetta, and media trials must be held accountable.
Practical measures must be taken for the rehabilitation, financial support, and restoration of dignity of workers who spent years in prison despite their innocence.
Media organisations must refrain from the irresponsible practice of convicting any political worker or party before a court verdict.

The Rabita Committee stated that MQM seeks no revenge from anyone, but firmly demands justice, truth, and the supremacy of the constitution. If Pakistan is to become a genuinely democratic state, the practice of suppressing political parties, silencing leaders, disappearing workers, fabricating false cases, and crushing the public mandate through media trials must be ended once and for all.
The Committee further stated that the Mohajir nation has faced decades of oppression, injustice, discrimination, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, arrests, media trials, and political restrictions — yet through it all, this nation has never abandoned its leader, its movement, or its right to representation. This proves that MQM is not merely a political party, but the embodiment of the consciousness, identity, right to representation, and struggle of a deprived and oppressed people.
The Rabita Committee concluded by expressing confidence that the day will soon come when all restrictions on Altaf Hussain will be lifted, MQM’s political activities will be fully restored, imprisoned workers will be released, forcibly disappeared workers will return to their homes, and justice will be delivered to the Mohajir nation and all the oppressed peoples of Pakistan.
Allah causes truth to prevail — and history has proven time and again that false cases, propaganda, and political vendetta are temporary, but truth endures forever.
