Snooker legend Ronnie O Sullivan has created history by recording the highest-ever professional break of 153 during the World Open Snooker in Yushan.
The seven-time world champion achieved this remarkable feat in the opening frame of his quarter-final match against Ryan Day, setting the tone for a dominant 5-0 victory.
How the Historic 153 Break Happened
The historic moment came after Ronnie O Sullivan put Day in a difficult snooker early in the frame. When Day failed to escape, O’Sullivan was awarded a free ball. He capitalized brilliantly:
Potted the green as an extra red
Followed with a black
Cleared 15 reds with 13 blacks and two pinks
Finished with all six colors
This exceptional clearance resulted in a total break of 153, surpassing the previous professional record of 148 set by Jamie Burnett in 2004.
A Rare Achievement in Snooker History
While the maximum break in snooker is traditionally 147, higher scores are possible under special circumstances involving a free ball. The theoretical maximum is 155, although it has never been recorded in professional competition.
O’Sullivan’s 153 now stands as the highest-ever break achieved in a professional tournament, further cementing his legendary status in the sport.
