Tilda Swinton Announces Hiatus from Acting at Berlin Film Festival

At the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, British actress Tilda Swinton announced she will take a break from acting for the remainder of the year. Swinton, known for her eclectic roles in both independent and mainstream cinema, expressed a desire to explore other projects and personal interests. She stated, “When I go home to Scotland on Monday, I am entering something that I have been looking forward to for 15 years, which is a period of my life when I do something different.”

Swinton’s announcement came during a press conference following her receipt of the Honorary Golden Bear, awarded in recognition of her four-decade-long career. In her acceptance speech, she criticized political leaders for “inhuman acts” and questioned governmental complacency toward global conflicts and environmental destruction.

Addressing her decision to attend the festival amid calls for a boycott due to the ongoing Gaza conflict, Swinton described her presence as a personal choice. She emphasized the importance of using the platform provided by the festival to contribute meaningfully, stating that her participation would be more impactful than her absence.

Swinton’s diverse filmography includes acclaimed performances in “Michael Clayton,” “We Need to Talk About Kevin,” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” Her upcoming hiatus reflects a commitment to personal growth
